The 4th in DC

We dropped Peanut off for camp and headed off on a few days of fun.  We stopped for lunch in Annapolis.  Got to sit outside.  The Big Guy enjoyed a soft shell crab sandwich, his first one ever!
We stayed near the Pentagon and got to use the Metro for transportation.
Wow!  The American Indian Museum has great food.  We timed it right and got a seat by the waterfall. I tried a variety of sides, essentially different kinds of salads and some yummy blue corn bread.
In the sculpture garden of the National Gallery of Art, they have Jazz in the Park on Friday evenings.  It was absolutely lovely.  We were by far on the older side.  It was mainly 25-30 year olds enjoying the music and sangrias.
Before listening to the music, we dipped our feet in the fountain.  It was a rather humid day.  The fountain was lined with folks dipping their feet.  We went for it too.  It was so incredibly refreshing.

On the 4th, we made our way back downtown to enjoy the parade.  We checked the cheese factor box by wearing the same tshirt.  They are locally designed in Collierville and we wanted to show them off.

We found a spot on the road to watch the parade.  When we left our hotel, it was pouring down rain.  We stopped and bought umbrellas and ponchos.  As soon as we made our purchases, the rain stopped!
The parade lasted for over two hours.  I was expecting a bit more.  By the end of the parade, it was time to find a bathroom.  So, back to the Art Gallery we went!

Then, we made our way to the MLK memorial.  It was very humid, there is construction on the mall, and part was fenced off for the fireworks.  It seemed like we walked forever!

We did not get to see the FDR memorial.  We got too hungry.  We went back to a favorite, The Old Ebbitt Grill.  Without a reservation, the wait was very long.  We made ourselves comfy at the bar and enjoyed the time together.

It rained again while we ate.  We did not mind at all!  We made our way back to the hotel to watch the fireworks from there.  We had a great vantage point.  The air was heavy and there wasn't a breeze which made the firework show kind of smoky.  Even so, we enjoy it!
