For the past four years, I've done some sort of celebration on the last day of school. This year Peanut got balloons on his bike.
They made the ride uphill into the wind a bit of a challenge. Peanut did not mind. School was out!

Beginning and Ending of School Year 09-10
Today marks the official end of another school year.
Here he was at the start of the year.
Here he was this morning before going into school. Bigger and wiser!
Here is Pumpkin on the first day of high school.
And, on his last day of his freshman year! I don't think he realizes that he wore about the same thing! It does look like he's got a bit of a teenager attitude, though.
Teacher gifts for Peanut's teachers. This pattern is simple using leftover sock yarn. I did not even change colors as the pattern suggests. I will make some more of these blossom bookmarks.

Tradition Continues
Pumpkin gets a buzz to mark the start of summer. This year is no exception. He's done. He was exempt from finals, a treat as a freshman. His summer began at about 10am.
Look at all those curls!
All gone!
Peanut has one more day. Soccer was cancelled and he wanted to go for a buzz too. He hasn't gotten one in a few years, but decided this was a summer for one.

Another after - just because. I snapped this one on my iphone and emailed it to the Big Guy. Technology is amazing!
Summer is upon us and we'll save some money on shampoo!!!

Project Graduation 2010 Chaperone
On Saturday night the Big Guy and I chaperoned Project Graduation. PG is a lock in for the recent graduates. It was from 10-4ish. I wanted to see what the night is like. We'll have a graduate there before we realize it.
We both were kind of apprehensive and it was past our bedtime. The evening ended up being fun. It was so enjoyable to watch the kids have a good time. There were lots of bouncy things for them to play around on. There was an obstacle course, a large trike course, a basketball hoop, a climbing wall, and a bunge spring thingamagig. I just watched kids on the obstacle course. The Big Guy worked the money chamber. It was one of those cages where they pump air in and money, coupons and prizes blow around. The kids got to keep one of the items they caught. There were $20 bills in there. Some kids got lucky! Here the Big Guy is controlling the air flow into the cage.
Our shift was over at 1am. There was lots of food. There were movies and prizes. There were fabulous prizes. Two lucky kids walked away with ipads! I almost wanted to be a senior again...

Final Concert Freshman Year
Last Tuesday was the final chorale concert of Pumpkin's freshman year. It was held on the town square. The boys wore their tuxes and the girls wore long dresses of their choice. The music was a Broadway tribute.
Here is Pumpkin before the concert. It was a little muggy and he was feeling it in his suit. He saw me coming with the camera and ducked down on a bench. I wasn't allowed to snap a picture with him next to a certain someone!
Here they are singing under the gazebo. I snapped this from my seat - not the best, but captured the moment. If you look close, his head is next to the end of the patriotic ribbon.
I had to bug out early to pick Peanut up from the Luau. Apparently, the final songs were emotional for the director and the seniors bidding her adieu. It definitely makes a statement about the director and the impact music has on the kids' lives. She does a great job and they take that love of music with them as they journey beyond high school.
Pumpkin told the Big Guy that I won't be able to come to his final high school concert. He thinks I will be boo-hoo crying and not be able to make it through. They are probably right, but I told them I just might surprise all of them! After all, I have three years to prepare!

5th Grade Luau!
A rite of passage at Peanut's elementary school, The Luau.
It is not a dance, but a night of fun earned by those big 'ol fifth graders. He had a shirt from some activity years ago. And, I convinced him to don some leis around his ankles.
The parent volunteers went all out. I had to drop and go as Pumpkin's spring concert was at the same time!
I did get to see him start the limbo. Boy! We've come so far that he is even willing to get in line and do the limbo!
When I came to pick him up, he was sort of kind of dancing on the dance floor!!
It was a fun night filled with fond memories of elementary school. Phew! It flew by!

BizTown and Mom
Peanut went to JA BizTown last week. It is an amazing environment giving the 5th graders a peek into "real" business. Peanut was the CEO of First Tennessee. It is a very demanding job.
The bank actually had their carpet removed. The place was flooded just a few days before. They did a great job cleaning up permitting the kids to do BizTown. I was there volunteering too in the International Paper business.
At the the end of the day, they awarded one boy and one girl the Citizenship Award for the day. Peanut was the lucky recipient! He was excited.
Lastly, I tried my hand at mobius knitting. I made this for my mom for Mother's Day. This was a fun knit and an engineering marvel. I loved the cast on and the creativity. I know she won't get to wear this cowl anytime soon. But, I hope it will keep her cozy in the fall. The Louisa Harding yarn is very soft. I can't wait try another mobius.
For all those moms out there, I hope your day was fabulous!!

Lots in Last Week
We made it this far before Peanut missed a day of school. With 17 days left in the school year, he woke up with a fever. Even Buddy did not make him feel any better:( Fortunately, it was out in a day or so with only a lingering cough.
The XBOX 360 came down with the Red Ring of Death. The Big Guy and the boys were able to google the fix. They successfully fixed it! We are so grateful for this internet. What a resource! It did not hurt that it rained ALL weekend forcing us stay insided. Buddy patiently waited for us to give him attention. He's breaking in the new dining room carpet. We love it.
I read this post on Friday. The Big Guy and I decided to jump right in. We are three green smoothies in to the month of May. They actually taste pretty good. The color does vary depending on the fruit added. It will be interesting to see if we make it all month.
Day 1
Day 2
Day 3: I forgot to take a picture
In the middle of the weekend rain, the mailman came. He brought a pretty big paycheck to Peanut. He was thrilled! That ref stuff is worth it!
We faired well with the weather. The tornado sirens activated five times. Fortunately the only impact was a loss of sleep. We got lots of rain. We don't have a basement. So, we don't have to contend with that. The grass is now greener than it has ever been!
